6 Clever Ways to Keep Kids Busy this Summer!
There's so much to love about summer: the long, warm days, the possibilities of time off and weekend getaways... But, there's one thing that we downright dread: the summer boredom blues. With kids far away from the structure and rhythm of school, we're constantly searching for ways to beat the summer blues. Look no further — we're here to help!
1. Relax with a yoga session for the whole family
Yoga is the perfect hobby to pick up for summer 2016! The best part? It's fun for the whole family. People of all ages can enjoy the benefits of yoga. It can be done indoors or out, and there are hundreds of free yoga routines available to watch online. No need for a studio membership or a pricey yoga mat — your front lawn and a few bath towels are the perfect setup for your little yogis to get started today!
2. Be Unconventional
Summer is the perfect time to break out of the normal routine and encourage your littles to try something new. While trying new foods and exploring new places are always exciting, the reality of summer is that, sometimes, kids have to create their own fun. Something as simple as taping up the carpet could be all it takes to keep them entertained for an entire afternoon.
3. Cue the Creativity!
Spend an entire day prepping for a clothesline art show! Let your kids be artists, curators, event planners, decorators, and clean-up crew all in one day! Invite the world — family, friends, neighbors, pets and watch the magic unfold as your kids take pride in an art show fully produced by them!
4. Start a book club!
With school on the way out, it's our job to keep kids on their A-game this summer! So, what are you waiting for? Host a book club in your house or neighborhood! Not only will the whole family benefit in the brain department, but reading together will also give you something new to talk about around the dinner table!
5. Take a Trip to the Local Farmer's Market!
The Farmer's Market is the perfect opportunity to get kids out of the house and meeting new people this summer! This is your chance to try new foods and talk to your kids about the importance of healthy, fresh ingredients. The best part? A trip to the Farmer's Market is totally free (although, we can't promise you won't be tempted by the fresh fruit and ready-made treats!).
6. Volunteer as a family
What could be a better use of your time than volunteering in your community? Kids will greatly benefit from helping those in need, and you can feel good knowing you're doing your part to teach your children how to prioritize others. Check out some kid-friendly volunteer ideas here.
