Memorial Day the Responsible Way (part 1)
Here we are again: another year, another Memorial Day weekend. While Memorial Day is, first and foremost, a day to look back and remember those who have sacrificed their lives for our country, most of us end up with a day off out of the deal. So, here’s the question — what should we do with it to make it really count?
For the family:
The meaning of Memorial Day can be tough to explain to anyone, especially small children. Parents may opt to stress that this weekend is about gratitude and spending time with family, rather than attempting to explain the complexities of war and sacrifice. Making a little room for a memorable family outing like a trip to the movie theater or a local park creates a chance for kids to not just hear, but feel the significance of the holiday. For children, these are the sweet Memorial Day memories that will lead to greater understanding later in life.
